It’s been a long, long time since we’ve recorded a podcast, but part of our goal as we move development ahead at full throttle is to increase the frequency of blog posts and updates about what’s going on behind the scenes.

NEStalgia Official Podcast

Today’s podcast is a meaty one, clocking in at 42 minutes. On this episode of the podcast Balzack and I discuss the Pre-Steam Fundraiser, details of the Steam launch, an ordered priority list of what’s next for the game in terms of short-term updates, and some branded new information about the content expansion. We also preview one of the new music tracks that was recently composed for the game.

If you have questions or feedback about the podcast then please leave us a comment on this blog post. It’s really up to you guys as to whether or not we keep doing these podcasts – if you’re interested in hearing more podcasts on a more regular basis then let us know.

  1. Also, I mentioned this in passing today and a few people have already commented about it in-game – my wife Becca and I are expecting our first child early next year. I never feel like making a huge deal over these types of things, so I didn’t want to make a big announcement. At any rate, here is the most recent “baby bump” picture of her from last night (she’s almost 5 months along): http://silkgames.com/random/becca5months.jpg

There you have it, now you guys know *everything* that I have going on right now 😉

  2. Congrats to you and your wife Silk, lots of great things going on for Silk Games!

  3. Really appreciate the podcast, I had no idea you did them in the past, I hope this becomes a regular thing!

    • Just finished the podcast, I think I would like to hear about the design decisions in the upcoming changes to the classes. I realize you don’t want to state as fact any change you might make to a class, because it is all on the table, but I would like to hear more philosophical reasons for the changes. Something like, “Here’s my vision for for this class, here’s what the current state is, here’s how it is broken or not broken, and here’s my future concept.” I would like to hear on a personal level and on a developer level what you think the class roles are.

PS: I would like to know what your thoughts on the endgame for storm damage is, as it currently stands shades make storm builds kind of pointless.

  4. I like these podcasts a lot, helps answer a lot of questions I’ve had.

  5. Nice to have some news and updates, regardless of level of importance. It would certainly be appreciated to have more of these.

  6. Love the podcast. Having more of them would be more informative to the players; whether of major importance or not. Keep up the great work guys. Congrats on the baby. We just had one ourselves 2 weeks ago. They are a lot to love. lol. Hope everything goes well for you. Thanks for the update. 🙂

  7. Congrats on the bun in the oven!

So, is there going to be a NEStalgia event when this little gal/guy is born?

  8. I really understand that you are struggling in keeping the server up and all those essential stuff to keep everything running but if this game will go to steam I’m sure you ca recover and I’m sure you have knowledge to make alternative way in resolving problems. So keep up the good work!

  9. Wow 600$ for hosting! That’s expensive! You guys need a different provider! For the stuff that you guys are running the provider must be charging a large premium. When I was running game servers at most it cost me was around $150 for top end stuff and I could do anything software wise. Although your situation may be different! I wish you good luck!

    • Hosting costs for us alone will be around $600 at the beginning of the Steam launch because we’ll be purchasing 3 additional servers. They are fairly expensive because they provide the most comprehensive protection against DoS attacks that we’ve been able to find (plus an up-time guarantee and they won’t “fire” us for having to deal with DoS attacks that target us.)

I think that the number Silk was referring to in the podcast though also included paying for incidentals like music and artwork, as well as rental on our office: which wouldn’t be relevant to NEStalgia except we’ve put video production work on hiatus for now to focus on game development.

      • Yeah I thought that number was strange I assumed he meant the cost of development but I was not for sure. I might have misheard. I am not trying to twist your words, just wanted to help Because you guys are hurting for money and that might have helped. But yeah that ddos protection is definitely needed XD

  10. Thanks for all of the feedback on the podcast everyone! We’ll try to do these more often.

  11. Thanks for giving out the mention to the Beta Topic.
I had figured that people would admire my dedication in attempting to create beta screenshots.

The last time you had a beta you had actually invited people with a Legitimate topic.
Sorry for the trouble. It totally was a good laugh none the less.

  12. Congratulations on everything!

It appears I left about the time these podcasts ended and made my way back just as they’ve started again. I think these podcasts are great and it’s encouraging to hear that the game is moving forward, plus it’s nice to see behind the curtain at times.

I personally would like to see a more complete wiki as the game progresses (I’m slowly helping). I think it helps encourage people to play the game (I know I always check the wiki first). Plus if there were more emphasis on the wiki it might help cut down on unnecessary questions that are asked in the game. Hopefully my two cents aren’t out of place here.

  13. Is there going to be another podcast this month?

  14. I like these podcast. Just gave it another listen! 🙂

  15. Just started playing the other week and enjoyed the podcast, looking forward to the Steam launch!

    Congratulations!
